Generational Healing

Reclaiming our medicines

Helping families overcome cycles of trauma, build resiliency, & work against systems of oppression

"Despite everything, we are still here."

In May 2022, the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) released a report confirming that the federal government directly targeted American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian children in the pursuit of a policy of cultural assimilation that coincided with Indian territorial dispossession. The United States removed Native American children from their homes and forced them to conform to the culture and practices of the majority population. This is the first time the federal government acknowledged such atrocity.

But to our Indigenous community members, these facts aren't new. These atrocities were their reality, and the Indigenous Peoples of today carry the weight of these acts of genocide through generational trauma, which affects their day-to-day lives in ways many can't imagine.

"Historical trauma response includes survivor guilt, depression, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and physical symptoms. It also includes psychic numbing, anger, suicidal ideation, and fixation on trauma. Trauma continues to pass down to generations of Native Americans who continue to suffer from many issues, including high rates of addictions, domestic violence, and Type 2 Diabetes."

We are reclaiming our cultures and our traditional medicines.

We are reclaiming our sacred traditions and ceremonies so that we may not only heal our own traumas but break the cycles so that future generations grow up to live healthy, empowered, and resilient lives.

"Our team aims to cultivate sustainable, traditionally-focused, community-driven care for Indigenous families. Our goal is to return the power back to families to connect with the power of traditional birth and parenting to build communities that are connected to their culture, language, and traditions. Our purpose is to reclaim traditional birth and breastfeeding practice for Indigenous communities, cultivating relationships and interconnection while countering the systemic racism at the root of many of the health problems facing Indigenous communities."

We deserve to have a say about the policies and systems that directly affect us. Using our voices to vote is so important for us to preserve our sacred traditions and the teachings that our elders taught us to continue for the next seven generations.
